    FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

    1. Are the dates of the 2026–2027 school calendar final?

    Yes.
The dates of the 2026–2027 school calendar of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles have been approved by the Government and officially published.
They apply to all primary and secondary schools, both public and private.

    2. When does the 2026–2027 school year start and end in FWB?
    • Start of the school year: Monday August 24, 2026

    • End of the school year: Friday July 2, 2027

Summer holidays start on Saturday, July 3, 2027.

    3. Why does my child have days off outside the official holidays?

In addition to official school holidays and public holidays, schools may schedule:

    • pedagogical training days,

    • internal staff meetings,

    • sometimes bridging days after a public holiday.

👉 These days are decided by each school and must be communicated to parents at the beginning of the school year.

    4. How many school holiday periods are there in 2026–2027 in FWB?

There are 4 main holiday periods of two weeks:

    • autumn holidays (All Saints),

    • winter holidays (Christmas),

    • mid-term break (Carnival),

    • spring holidays (Easter),

    plus the summer holidays.

    5. Why do the spring holidays not always coincide with Easter?

Since the school rhythm reform, the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles applies a system of:
7 weeks of classes followed by 2 weeks of holidays.

    This structure aims to:

    • better distribute the academic workload,

    • reduce student fatigue,

    • avoid overly long teaching periods.

👉 As a result, spring holidays may be shifted relative to Easter, which is normal.

    6. Are the 2026–2027 school holidays the same in Flanders?

    No.
Flanders follows a different school calendar, particularly for:

    • Carnival holidays,

    • spring holidays,

    • the end date of the summer holidays.

👉 Families with children enrolled in both systems should compare calendars separately.

    7. Is the calendar the same for part-time secondary artistic education?

The holiday periods are the same, with one important difference:

    In part-time secondary artistic education,
holidays end on Saturday, not on Friday.

    8. Are there public holidays during school holidays?

Yes, some public holidays fall during school holidays, for example:

    • Christmas,

    • New Year’s Day,

    • sometimes Ascension Day or Labour Day.

In such cases, they do not add extra days off.

    9. Can the dates change during the school year?

    No.
Once approved by the Government, the FWB school calendar is fixed for the entire year.

Only local pedagogical days may vary by school.

    10. Where can I download the official 2026–2027 school calendar?

The official school calendar of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles is available:

    • on enseignement.be,

    • on the official website of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles,

    • and as a downloadable PDF version on this page.

    • primary education,

    • secondary education,

    • special education.

    ⚠️ Possible differences concern only:

    • pedagogical days,

    • certain locally decided holidays.
