The 2027-2028 school calendar for Wallonia and Brussels has been published. Pupils will return to school on Monday 30 August 2027, and the school year will end on Friday 7 July 2028. This page lists the holidays and days off for French-speaking schools that fall under the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

Key dates for the 2027-2028 school year

2027-2028 school holidays in the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles

The Order gives Friday as the official final day of each holiday period. Pupils return to school the following Monday. The printable calendar therefore colours the weekend through to Sunday.

Public holidays and other days without classes

Some holidays fall during a school break or at the weekend: All Saints' Day on Monday 1 November 2027, Christmas Day on Saturday 25 December 2027, New Year's Day on Saturday 1 January 2028 and Labour Day on Monday 1 May 2028. They do not add an extra day to the holiday periods listed above.

All Souls' Day on 2 November is not a separate statutory public holiday in Belgium. Pupils will still be off school that day in 2027 because it falls during the autumn break.

Which schools follow this calendar?

The official calendar applies to primary and secondary education, both mainstream and specialised, including full-time and work-study programmes organised or subsidised by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. It therefore covers French-speaking schools in Wallonia and Brussels that belong to this education system.

Dutch-speaking schools follow the calendar of the Flemish Community. Universities and university colleges also set their own academic calendars.

Special case: secondary arts education with a reduced timetable

Secondary arts education with a reduced timetable (ESAHR) has the same individual days off, but the dates of some holiday periods are different:

In ESAHR institutions that open for 29 or 33 weeks, the organising authority sets the first day of classes between 30 August and 15 September 2027, and the last day between 31 May and 7 July 2028. The exact dates therefore depend on the institution.

Why does the spring break take place after Easter?

Since the reform of the school calendar, teaching weeks and holiday periods have been spread more evenly across the year. The spring break does not always coincide with Easter. In 2028, Easter Monday falls on 17 April, while the spring break begins on 1 May.

No. The Flemish Community has its own school calendar. Families with children enrolled in different language communities should check the dates separately.

The Order sets the shared calendar for all the schools concerned. Check the school's own communications for dates or timetables that apply only to that institution.
